I’ve lived abroad for eight years now, and guess what? I’ve never decorated my house for Christmas! I’m not sure why, maybe it’s related to the fact that we, expats, never feel 100% at home. I’ve always waited for December 23rd to fly back to Italy and celebrate with my family.
This year has been especially difficult for everyone and I’m looking forward to the holiday season. I’m not yet sure though if we will be able to visit family and friends, for Christmas.
This is one of the reasons why I decided to cozy up my place, for the first time after eight years! I’m not yet sure what will happen… but I am aware I have so many things to be grateful for. A new lovely home, a successful career, a man by my side.
I focused on the living room, the area I like the most. First and most important step: select all the items to remove, and leave space to the new theme. Less is more. After that, I made a selection of what and where to decorate: fireplace, sofa and coffee table.
So here is it, my mood board ♥ I chose a classic palette: red, gold, and a touch of green.
I went out shopping last weekend, but it was very busy in town and super crowded in the shops. So I opted for online shopping. Below you can find the pieces I have selected for my place:
- Christmas wreath for hanging up, Zara Home
- Salted Caramel candle, Zara Home
- Gold tray, Zara Home
- Cut-out placemat, Zara Home
- Gold steel cookie cutters in the shape of stars, Zara Home
- Christmas balls, Casa Shops
- Christmas lights, Karwei
- Pillows, H&M home
- Wool blanket, H&M Home
These are my favorite shops here, for Christmas shopping:
And you? Is there anything I forgot? Comments and feedback are always welcome. Big long-distance hug, to everyone.
